Men’s Open Sweeps accepts rowers who wish to train and compete competitively for full-time membership. If you like those things too, we may be the program for you. We are a fun group that likes to work hard, play hard, and make boats go fast. Many of our athletes also scull and some have had good results in sculling events while also racing in our sweep boats. Our primary focus is on competition in sweep boats but, that being said, if it floats or has a flywheel attached to it, our guys will try to race it. We want to revitalize the club rowing scene and prove that it’s possible to be competitive while working a full-time job or completing graduate school. We enjoy the tickets we're gifted but probably would not buy them regularly.Riverside’s Open Men’s Sweep Team (aka “The Meatwagon”) is a group of upstanding young men between the ages of 22 and 35 who believe that just because your college racing career is over, doesn’t mean you have to stop training and competing at a high level. That was great, and will go down as of my favorite DC sports memories.Īt the end of the day, I think it's a nice treat if you wanted to do it and experience it, but it's not necessary for every game. It can feel like kind of a deadzone at times.īut, as another plus, the bars stay open like 45 minutes after a game ends or something like that? We were actually at the game on May 9 during the series we swept the Braves and hung out at the bar with about 50 other DC sports fans and watched the rest of the Wizards game after the Nats ended and all went crazy with Paul Pierce's game winning shot. A lot of people show up late and leave early. People don't really get that into cheering or even playful heckling. You can get a decent amount of visiting team fans, especially against teams like the Dodgers or other big market teams. The downside is that people don't seem to be really into the game depending on when you go. The seats are shaded too, which is a plus when it's hot. In 214, we're literally right in front of Rizzo's box. There's also an elevator you can take up to the 200-level, which is nice if you have people with mobility issues with you.Īs for views of the game, they're solid. There is also a mini clubhouse store, too. Many of the staffers are the same game-to-game and in the same spots, so you get to know them. The staff is friendly and helpful and constantly cleaning/sweeping up debris or garbage that might be left. The restrooms are clean, nicer than the regular ballpark restrooms, and don't generally have terribly long lines. The entire area inside is air-conditioned, so in June and July when it's sweltering, we'll usually grab our food and either snag a table/lounge chair area or a square of carpet (hah, I know, it barely sounds like baseball) and eat inside, then head out to the seats with beers. The amenities are nice, especially when it's HOT. They also have a concession stand that sells the Nats 10th Anniversary IPA, which my dad is wild about, in addition to two full bars with beer, wine, liquor, and those slurpee margarita/daiquiri drinks. The burgers are more gourmet-type burgers, maybe Angus beef? "Black and Bleu Burger" etc etc. They have some expanded options like a carving station (roast beef + carved turkey sandwiches with horseradish or cranberry chutney), deluxe nachos, sushi, a dessert stand, along with the regular standbys like hot dogs, chicken tenders, burgers, pizza. The concessions are pretty solid, but you do pay for them. I have to admit the setup is pretty sweet. My family is gifted seats in 214 by a friend who has excess business season tix a few games a year. Unique flair request? Message the mods, and we'll try and get it sorted out.
